Features

This large conifer is found mainly in Northern Europe and there are about 80 different species. It has a reddish bark with needle-like grey-green leaves and orange-yellow flowers.

History

It was well known to the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Greece, and Arabia who recognised its strong curative properties and it was associated with religious ceremonies. It was also used for scurvy and in cases of TB. Used as an ingredient for soap and is valuable for its deodorizing and disinfectant properties.
