Clear, refreshing, and slightly woody.


This is an evergreen shrub cultivated to a height of six feet, however, it can grow to around thirty feet in the wild. It mainly comes from France and Italy but it is found in many parts of the world and thrives easily in arctic conditions. It has a reddish stem, with needle-like leaves, supporting small yellow flowers with blue/blackberries.


Juniper Berry played a major role in many contagious diseases such as cholera and typhoid. In Mongolia. In the 15th & 16th-century, it was highly praised by herbalists for its effect on the plague and also as a cure for bites. Juniper and Rosemary twigs were burnt for a long time in French hospitals to cleanse the air and it was used as a cure-all in Yugoslavia. In Mongolia, it was given to women at the onset of labour. Its ability to replenish tired spirits is inferred in the bible when the exhausted Elijah slept under a Juniper tree and it is the famous ingredient of gin.


As it purifies the air it helps to stimulate and strengthen nerves and supports the spirit in challenging situations.


A very effective diuretic and is valuable for cystitis, kidney stones, cellulitis, fluid retention, and hemorrhoids. It stimulates the body when feeling drowsy, and purifies the blood making it valuable where there are disease-carrying insects. Beneficial for arthritis, rheumatism, gout, and muscular stiffness. Also works well on the menstrual cycle, regulating periods and easing painful cramps.

Effect on skin

A tonic for oily and congested skin. Its purifying properties may ease acne, blocked pores, dermatitis, weeping eczema, psoriasis, and swellings.

Avoid all essential oils during the first three months of pregnancy.

Avoid Frankincense and Turmeric if taking blood-thinning medication.

Skin Sensitivity – Black pepper, Citronella, Clove, Ginger, Lemon, Lemongrass, Orange, Peppermint, Turmeric

Photosensitising Oils – Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Mandarin, and Tangerine - They react to ultraviolet light making the skin more sensitive.

This oil is considered safe for pets if used correctly.
